‘The Cycle of Memories’ for Live Electronics
‘The Cycle of Memories’ is an aesthetic interpretation and auditory work of internal movements within the brain related to memories. Composer WONWOORI recorded 64 channels of nodes and chose FP1, FP2, P3, P4, O1, and O2, which are associated with memory. Based on these data, WONWOORI musically expressed the state of the brain, especially when we recall memories.
In ‘Signal’, I created an additive synthesis using 64 sine waveforms to express the activation process of the entire brain, which moves from the frontal lobe to the occipital lobe. ‘Density’ shows the asynchronous and synchronous brain rhythms found in the FP1. In ‘Activation’, I auditoryized the data of the activated regions of the brain involved with long-term memories. In ‘Circulation’, another set of brain waves from a listener who is listening to the “Memory” that was turned into music are recorded anew. These new waves are synthesized with the original data to generate new feedback.
