'Micro Layers' for Haegeum and Electronics
The sound of Haegeum (Korean traditional fiddle) comes in a variety of sounds and noises. I have always wondered about the unsettled boundary, and I wrote 'Micro Layers' as a result of instrumental research and musical research. Among the methods of playing Haegeum, I analyzed the spectrum data of the Pyeong(tranquility), Yoseong(vibrato), and tremolo, focusing on the auditory implementation of the flow of data that changes subtly over time. Especially, the ten layers which are the core of the spectrum appearing in the attack part of Haegeum showed possibility of using melody, tone and structure in the process of appearance and disappearance with re-synthesized sound through Max / MSP. Through music technology, Korean traditional musical instrument Haegeum has been revived with modern sensitivity.
I. From the ‘Pyeong’.
II. From the ‘Yoseong’.
III. From the ‘Tremollo’.
